Do Lectures
The Do Lectures is a tiny event in the west of Wales that inspires action. Out of their events come incredible lectures that cover the future of the book in the iPad era, how to get young people to love the land, and even why you should have a party everyday. Fortunately for us, those talks are filmed and hosted online. In January 2011, The Do Lectures hired us to design & build a new website that makes browsing for and watching videos a delight from any device.
A Para-Frank Production™
Frank Chimero, our friend, and a part of the 2011 Do Lectures lineup, joined us during the design process. Having worked with him during Lost World's Fairs for Microsoft, we jumped at the chance to partner up once again. Frank's thoughtful approach and design chops elevated the process and the site itself.
A Responsive Layout
We used all sorts of new-fangled CSS3 to make the viewing experience optimal no matter which device you use, or how wide your window is. We planned for this ahead of time, making sure that the design was properly malleable and that the site structure & hierarchy remained top-notch no matter which view you get.
The Do Team
What can we say? Working with the team at the Do Lectures was an absolute joy. Watch a video or two, and you find yourself believing in what they do, and we can’t help but think that their approach in partnering with us had a direct impact on the final product. Special thanks to Jon Heslop, and his wife, Alex.
Built on HTML5
The Do Lectures site is built upon cutting-edge HTML5, which blurs the lines between desktop applications and the web. We employed the new HTML5 Video element, which allows for rich media to be viewable on your desktop computer as well as on mobile devices like the iPhone and iPad. In a world where more smartphones are sold than PCs each year, being mobile is becoming less of a feature and more of a requirement.
